I have so much stuff that I want to post about (school, the incredible day Rob and I spent in NYC at the Met and seeing Godspell) but it will take some time to get it all written up. So instead, I decided to share my latest accomplishment – The Great Mitten Knitting Marathon of 2012. After several days and a monster Grey’s Anatomy marathon (I am so in love with George O’Malley and from what my sister tells me, this can only lead to heartbreak!) I have finished making 21 mitten ornaments / gift card holders. And last night, I sewed on cute little decorative buttons to give them an extra boost of cute.
My mom wants me to make a lot more and then sell them as Gift Card Holders / Ornaments when we get closer to the holidays and maybe I will but for now, I am happy to be done with making little mittens.
A few final thoughts on mittens:
– One of the many reasons I love my hubby is that when I email him to tell him that I FINALLY finished the last mitten, he will take his phone, record a video of him doing a silly “yay-the-mittens-are-done” dance and email it to me. It is insanely cute!
– When you have cast off and sewn up a mitten and then days later, you discover that you dropped a stitch and it is running down the mitten, and you are able to retroactively pick up the stitch and then tack it down so that you can’t tell that you ever dropped that stitch, you will feel like a knitting rock star!
– It is very annoying when you are sewing a button onto a mitten and realize that you have sewn aforementioned mitten shut and have to undo everything. The buttons that have the little back loop are much easier to deal with in this situation than the ones that have the holes through the button itself.
– And other than picking up gift cards and candy to stuff the mittens with (which I like to do much closer to the holidays so that expiration dates aren’t an issue) I have finished 15 Christmas presents already. Yay!
