The Oscars are great for discovering cool films and music that might have slipped under your radar during the year. Rob and I were introduced to Once when “Falling Slowly” was nominated for best song and to A Mighty Wind when “A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow” was nominated.
This year, we were fascinated by the glimpses we had of “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore “- the winner for Best Animated Short. We purchased the movie and watched it today.
It was utterly charming. Although there was no dialogue, the little book characters had so much personality! And I loved the little bibliophile touches (his little book friend communicated in a sort of flip-book illustrations, much of the household furniture had a “booky” look to them – the grand piano had a book cover and pages as a lid and it was held up by a fountain pen, when Mr. Morris tries to operate on a hurt book, the patient is hooked up to a little ventilator book – just cute little touches that it was fun to notice).
If you haven’t seen this film, I definitely recommend it.
