A Few Thoughts on Casablanca

First of all, incredible movie. I am really glad that I got to see it in the theaters.

Secondly, I really wish my local movie theater would do things like this more often. I would love to see some of the old classic B&W films (most of which, I am sad to say, I have never seen) up on the screen. Would it really kill them to do a monthly screening of something featuring Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Danny Kaye, etc.

Thirdly, watching Casablanca really gave me a sense of how much Harrison Ford’s characters like Han Solo and Indiana Jones really owes to Humphrey Bogart. I am obviously not the only one who thinks so since they cast Harrison Ford to play Bogart’s part in the remake of Sabrina. But there is so much about Casablanca that seems to be echoed in Star Wars and Indiana Jones. And I would like to state for the record that Rick, much like Han, shot first.

I would also like to note that it is impossible to watch Casablanca without getting “As Time Goes By” stuck in your head for days and, if I had the energy to every throw another party (I am still recovering from Rob’s Rock Band Birthday Party), a Casablanca themed party would be really cool.

About Ciarrai

Hi. My name is Kerry but here online I tend to go by the Gaelic version of my name, Ciarrai. I am a woman in my mid-30's who lives on Long Island, NY, with my husband, Rob, several guitars, a Nikon D40, more yarn, beads and books than I care to admit to and a cat who has a million nicknames and quite a few theme songs. I have a B.A. in Psychology and have recently returned to college to pursue a teaching degree so that I can eventually get a job as a High School English teacher. In addition to my major obsessions (Reading, Beading, Knitting, Music and Photography), I also enjoy playing Board Games, going to Renaissance Faires, Museums and Broadway Musicals.
